We are currently pouring the following:

2019 Cabernet Franc $38
81% Cabernet Franc, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon
Lighter bodied and a little bit less serious than the flagship Ursa, the Cab Franc smells of pomegranate and red currant, roasted red pepper and tarragon.  The feel in the mouth is fresh and coolly refreshing.  (400 cases)

2019 Star Merlot $38
87% Merlot 13% Cabernet Franc
This Star Merlot has all the mouthwatering flavors that Baer and Stillwater Creek Vineyards are known for.  The nose is pie cherry, cranberry, cacao nibs with a subtle fresh floral note like orchard tree blossoms.  In the mouth the wine is supple and mouthwatering.  It’s unabashedly medium bodied.  (375 cases)

2019 Ursa $40
43% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot
Layers of huckleberry and plum, culinary herbs like juniper berry, fresh sage and bay leaf, vanilla and grilled meat, come together in delicious harmony.  There’s a seriousness and a structure that will benefit from some bottle aging but at the same time it is elegant and delicious to drink now. (650 cases)

2019 Arctos Cabernet Sauvignon $47
87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot
It’s filled with ripe black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, black plum and an umami savoriness like nori, roasted seaweed with Italian herbs dried oregano and thyme.  A classic Cab in the mouth, a balance of ripe fruit together with sweet oak and a mineral quality to the polished tannins. (500 cases)

2019 Callisto $42
50% Syrah, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot
Bigger and bolder than either the Ursa or the Cab Franc, the Callisto is inky black in color.  The Syrah here lends a super silky texture, meaty richness and spicy black pepper character to the blend.  The Cab provides the structural backbone, and it brings the classic black cherry and black olive aromatics.  The Petit Verdot is floral and blueberry with a base note of black coffee. (225 cases)

2019 Malbec $38
80% Malbec, 10% Syrah, 10% Petit Verdot
Intensely pigmented, this wine smells brambly, like a tayberry tart.  The aromatics are super interesting-there’s black licorice, orange peel, olive and grilled bread.  In the mouth it is juicy and ripe with a streak of acidity keeping it fresh.  (125 cases)

2021 Reserve Chardonnay $35
100% Chardonnay Clone 75
The inaugural vintage was naturally fermented with native yeast in one new French oak barrel and two neutral used barrels, light spice characters with subtle vanilla on the palate. (75 cases)

2023 Rose $24
100% Rosé of Cabernet Franc
Whole cluster pressed and fermented in stainless steel drums with one saignee barrel.  Nose of ripe nectarine, cantaloupe and Rainier cherry.  Dry with clean mineral finish. (181 cases)

2023 Shard $24
100% Chardonnay
This is a white wine style originated by our founder, Lance Baer.  No Oak. Very clean and fresh.  (120 cases)

Cheers for Peers – Virtual Tasting

If you missed our virtual tasting Thursday evening with Woodinville Wine Country. You can watch it here. Winemaker Erica Orr and Owner Lisa Baer shared a summer picnic/BBQ line-up – our 2018 Shard (unoaked Chardonnay), 2019 Rose´, and our flagship 2016 Ursa red blend, all paired with a Tarragon Citrus Chicken Salad.

You can order these wines here for contact-free curbside pick-up or shipping.  Want to pair them with the chicken salad for your next Summer event?  Here is the recipe:

Tarragon Citrus Chicken Salad – 2 Servings

2 Grilled Chicken Breasts or Rotisserie Chicken, Cubed
1/2 Cup Walnuts, Toasted and Chopped
1 Cup Seedless Green Grapes, Halved
1/2 Cup Mayonnaise (Avocado Oil)
1/2 Greek Yogurt or Sour Cream
2 Tbl Champagne Vinegar
1 Tbl Fresh Chopped Tarragon
1 Tbl Grated Lemon Zest
Salt and Pepper to Taste

Mix dressing ingredients in a bowl, reserving half of the chopped tarragon. In separate serving bowl toss chicken, grapes, and walnuts. Pour dressing over and mix lightly. Sprinkle with remaining tarragon and serve with a glass of your favorite Baer wine. We love chilled Rose´!

AdVineTures visits Baer Winery

We recently hosted Chris & Allison Wallace, world travelers and authors of the widely read AdVineTures web site, in our cellar. They were kind enough to report on their visit and their rating of our wine line up (including all the Baer wines and Orr Grenache) to honor Washington Wine Month. Read their post here.

#6 Baer Ursa Columbia Valley 2008
Wine Spectator Top 100 | 2011 | 95 points
Winemaker Lance Baer founded Baer Winery in 2000, producing his wines in Woodinville, Wash., using grapes from Columbia Valley vineyards. After his death in 2007, his sister Lisa and his father, Les, took the reins and hired consulting winemaker Erica Orr. Baer’s signature wine, Ursa, Latin for “bear,” has always been impressive for its suppleness and pure flavors. The 2008, a blend that focuses on Merlot and Cabernet Franc, is the winery’s best wine yet.

#28 Baer Ursa Columbia Valley 2012
Wine Spectator Top 100 | 2015 | 94 points
Ursa has done it again. From a pool of more than 18,000 wines, the editors of Wine Spectator have named the 2012 Ursa as the #28 wine in the world. The winning wines were selected in independent blind tastings based on 4 criteria: quality (represented by score), value (reflected by release price), availability (based on the number of cases made) and what Wine Spectator calls the “X”-factor—or, in other words, the excitement generated by the wine.
